What you will learn

In this unique information packed masterclass taught both by Sonica and Tripurasundari,you will learn the detail step by step process of creating an ikat collection.

You will learn how to create an ikat artwork, the technical aspects of fabric design, motifs and dyes. We will walk you through the ideal ways to work respectfully with artisans considering fair wage and cultural appropriation. We will share guidelines on the practical aspects of pricing, timelines and how to expect the unexpected. Learn all this and more directly from the weavers themselves.

Sonica Sarna

Sonica Sarna brings over two decades of expertise in apparel design and production, artisan partnerships and sustainability to this course that she has designed to help designers to create collections in partnership with traditional Indian artisan communities for the global marketplace. She is a bridge between traditional knowledge and the contemporary fashion industry.


Triupurasundari weavers are a traditional ikat weaving community located in the village of Choutuppal in Telangana. They are generational ikat artisans who will share their traditional expertise of ikat dyeing and weaving along with modern innovations in fabric so that contemporary designers can learn from them and collaborate with them.
