Crate & Barrel collaborated with Sonica Sarna to create products that supported 85 Ikat and Block Print artisans. As a result, we generated 1,295 workdays, offering economic opportunity and representation to women with limited access to education.
By choosing hand tie-dye and block printing over machine methods, and opting for organic cotton, we’ve:
Sequestered 8,662.5 kg of CO₂
Conserved 703.99 kW of electricity
Reduced 2,402.19 kg of chemical use
Saved 1,212,750 liters of water
Block printing is a centuries-old technique from New Delhi. Artisans hand-stamp patterns onto fabric using carved wooden blocks, one motif at a time. Each meter takes hours to print and is crafted with care by generational artisans.

Ikat is an ancient yarn tie-dye technique.
Threads are dyed and then handwoven on looms. The process takes weeks, and each weaver produces only a few meters a day. Every motif carries deep cultural meaning, rooted in village life.
